ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ACADEMIC
CHAMBER OF MMSP:
To lead the caravan to its zenith,
the key component of the objectives
of the Master Mariners Society of
Pakistan is to devise ways and means
for increasing academic and
scientific knowledge of the Pakistan
Merchant Navy Officers. The Prime
need to make headway on this course
was the requirement of a lecture
room enable start courses for
Mariners, being food of thought and
proposed by Capt. Anwar Shah, After
thoughtful planning, the MMSP office
accommodation was architectured to
allow half its space for a lecture
room which was named as "ACADEMIC
CHAMBER". Additionally, the
tasteful designing, colour scheme,
decoration etc. supplemented with a
couple of months hard work, buried
the century-old appearance of the
office and gave it a dignified look
To perform the opening ceremony of
this historical beginning, the
person chosen to be the Chief Guest
was rightfully the most precious
jewel in the MMSP's treasure chest,
i.e. our President of the Master
Mariners Society of Pakistan Capt.
Haleem A. Siddiqui. This Academic
Chamber was inaugurated on 31st
July 1998 in presence of large
gathering of Marine professionals.
Several MMSP members and office
bearers played their role in the
establishment of this Chamber. But
there are few who played the pivotal
role. Without the efforts of Capt Mujahid Karim Khan, the Acting
General Secretary of MMSP and Capt.
Aijaz Ahmad under the guidance of Capt. An
war Shah, this Academic Chamber
certainly would not have seen the
light of the day. For their
excellent contribution MMSP offers
them a big THANK YOU.
Capt. Intizar Mehdi and Capt. M.Y.
Rizvi and with the co-ordinated
efforts of Capt. S. I. H. Naqvi and
Capt. Anwar Shah the Academic
Chamber of MMSP in collaboration
with Pakistan Marine Academy
conducted first ever specialized
Chemical Tanker Training Course in
Pakistan. Around 25 officers
attended this course and a foreign
ships company for its Chemical
Tankers employed all of them.
The first course on "Introduction to
ISM Code & STCW - 95" was held on
24-09-1998. Since then twenty
courses have been conducted by Capt, M. Y. Rizvi on voluntary
basis. Beside this four courses of
"Introduction to Protection and
Indemnity Insurance " conducted by
Capt. Syed Haider Hussain and five
courses of "Human Resource
Management'" conducted by Capt. M. Jamil Akhtar Khan.
Each course had
around 20 participants. Several
members and non-members have
attended these courses.
