ACHIEVEMENTS

  

 

  • To meet its objectives MMSP has taken following key steps:

  • Preserving the title of CAPTAIN by court judgment:

  • Salary of Pakistani seafarers working on foreign ships Exempted from Income Tex. Circular No. 5 of 2001:

  • Equivalency of masters certificate of Master Mariner from MMSP to graduation level:

  • Protecting right of members:

  • Appointment of directors from Merchant Marine in D.G. (port & Shipping) Established a small library containing books and relevant videos on maritime topics:

  • Publishes a journal "MARINER"

  • Society has organized following seminars:

            PIRACY ON THE HIGH SEAS-2009

  • In 1998 the Society established its Academic Chamber where professional Courses are be­ing conducted to enhance the competence of shipping personnel. So far, courses on follow­ing topics, on non- commercial basis, have been designed and conducted.

    • Familiarization of ISM Code and STCW-95:

    • Introduction to protection and Indemnity Insurance:

    • Human Resource Management:

      Specialized Chemical Tankers Training Programme - organized in collaboration with Pakistan Marine Academy (this course was the first ever conducted in Pakistan)

  • In the near future following courses, which are being developed, will be conducted:

    • Internal Auditing under ISM Code:

    • Introduction to Marine Insurance:

    • Introduction tore-formatted IMDG Code:

    • Commercial Knowledge for Masters: Communication Skills,

    • Port State Control:

    • IT Skills for Mariners:

  • MMSP has fully participated and made a significant contribution in the following key legislative and policy matters of national importance:

    • Task Force on Ports and Shipping ( headed by MMSP's President. Capt. Haleem A. Siddique, Vice President Capt, Anwar Shah and Capt, S.I.H. Naqvi.

    • Shipping policy and Merchant Shipping Ordinance 2001- drafted by MMSP:

    • Assisting Ministry in 2006 to improve Shipping policy under the Chairmanship of D.G. Ports & Shipping Capt. Awar Shah.

     

    ACHIEVEMENTS OF MEMBERS AND OFFICE BEARERS :

    • MMSP is proud that it’s President was elected to National Assembly and was Minister of State for Water and Power. Capt. Haleem A. Siddiqui on the hills maintained his constituency of Merchant Marine.

    • Capt. Anwar Shah  Vice President of MMSP has the honour of being first Merchant Navy Officer to be appointed as Director General / additional Secretary 2003-2007 of  Ports & Shipping Ministry of communication. He has also the honour of becoming Chairman  Gwadar Port 2006-2007 and taking additional charge of Karachi Port and Port Qasim Chairman for short span. He is the first Pakistani to be appointed as Governor World Maritime University Malmo Sweden.  He is also on the panel of IMO Secretary General panels of experts and  Maritime advisor to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

    • Member Executive Committee Capt. Syed Mohammad Ali made his way to sindh Provincial assembly, as MNA

    • Capt. Abdul Jabbar Randeo, our member has been conferred the “Tamgha-i-Shuja’at” by President of Pakistan

    • Capt. S.T.H. Rizvi, our life member has been conferred the “Tamgha-i-Shuja’at” by President of Pakistan.

    • Capt. Intizar Mehdi our life member has been conferred the “Tamgha-I-Shuja’at” by President of Pakistan.

    • Our honorary legal advisor Capt. Shaiq Usmani, was elected to Judge of High Court.

    • Capt. Abdul Moiz Khan our member was elected as Vice President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce Industry.

    • Capt. Syed Akhlaq Hussain our member was nominated as Director of KESC and he was also elected  as member National Assembly for about 10 months.

    • Capt. S.I.H. Naqvi, our Ex- Vice President has been elected as Director Pakistan Shippers Council FPCCI. He had been Vice Chairman of PNSC.

    • Capt. Nasim Ahmad Tariq is first Merchant Navy Officer to be appointed as Shipping Master.

    • Capt. M. Jamil Akhtar Khan is Chief Executive Officer  of  TAKAFUL PAKISTAN THE ISLAMIC INSURANCE.

    • Capt. Azhar Ehtesham Ahmed is Chief Executive Officer  of  SAUDI PAK INSURANCE CO. LTD.

    • Capt. Mahmood Sultan is Chief General Manager of ADAMJEE INSURANCE CO. LTD

    • Capt. K. Raffat Zaheer was Director Commercial of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation

    • Capt. Aftabuddin  Siddiqui is appointed as Director Commercial of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation

    • Capt. Nazir Ahmed is appointed as Director Shipping

    • Capt. Abdul Rashid Abro is first Merchant Mariner to be appointed as Chairman Shipping Committee of FPCCI

    • Capt. I.H. Dar was first General Manager of KPT, from Merchant Marine.

    • Capt. Syed Hashmatullah Shah has been appointed as Director General Operation Port Qasim
