Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila joined Pakistan Navy in 1972 and after initial training at Pakistan Naval Academy, he was selected for training at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth (UK). He was commissioned in the Operations Branch in June 1975.
He specialized as Principal Warfare Officer from UK. He did Naval Command and Staff Course from Indonesia and Armed Forces War Course from National Defence College, Islamabad. He holds M Sc (War Studies) degree from Quaid-e-Azam University.
The Admiral has had the privilege of Commanding a shore establishment PNS HAIDER, Destroyer PNS BADR and 25th Destroyer Squadron of Pakistan Navy. He also served as Training Commander at Pakistan Naval Academy and Fleet Operations Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet.
The Admiral's distinguished staff appointments
at Naval Headquarters include, Flag Lt to Chief
of the Naval Staff, Director Project (Plans),
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Plans) and
Principal Secretary to Chief of the Naval Staff.
As Flag Officer, he has headed the Operations
and Project Branches as Deputy Chief of Naval
Staff (Operations) and Deputy Chief of Naval
Staff (Projects) at NHQ. Admiral also had the
coveted honour of serving as Director General
Maritime Security Agency, Commander Pakistan
Fleet and Commander Logistics. He was serving as
Chief of Staff at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad
until his promotion to the rank of Admiral and
appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff on 7th
Oct 11.
He
is recipient of the award of Hilal-i-lmtiaz
(Military) and "Chevalier de I' Order National
de Merite" for rescue of French and other
nationals in Maldives during Tsunami in December
2004.
The
Admiral is a keen golfer. He is married and is blessed with one
son and two daughters..
