SEMINAR ON "PORTS AND SHIPPING IN
THE CHANGING ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT
1993:
With the advent of 21M Century new
challenges are throwing long shadows
needing an objective appraisal of
the changing economic environment
requiring not only maintenance of
the historical and traditional
images but adopting new
technologies. The world of Marine
too needs adopting/adapting the
up-coming trends. The new world
order would be demanding expansion
of economic horizons more than the
affinity of geo-political
boundaries; and, therefore,
communications have to play an
effective role. As such a
qualitative change in the sea
transportation is the need of the
lime for the sub-continental nations
which have already freed their
economies; and viable bridges have
to be developed in the form of
improved shipping services and
up-dated port facilities. For
Pakistan, development of a
substantial strategy in this regard
has become all the more important
because of the new geo-political and
economic scenario in the
neighborhood.
This International Seminar on "Torts
and Shipping in the Changing
Economic Environment", examined
these developments and offered with
pragmatic solutions about the
development of ports and shipping in
the region so as to help make the
land-locked Central Asian Republics
more viable partners in the
transportation system. This time,
MMSP has the opportunity of active
assistance in the deliberations of
the Seminar from Federation of
Pakistan Chamber of Commerce &
Industry, a Representative body of
Pakistani traders and
industrialists. MMSP graciously
acknowledge the cooperation of the
Federation.
We feel happy to record that in this
endeavor to develop new horizons for
the sea transportation, the Master
Mariners Society of Pakistan, a body
of professional, has been
contributing richly ever since its
formation in 1978 by way of not only
organizing a number of activities
for furthering the professional
acumenship of its members, but also
helping the Government in the
formulation of National Shipping
Policy.
